On cooler days that are not that appealing to boaties or midweek when most are working the lake sees very few visitors. There are a few places with some relief from winds coming down the valley from the north. The scenery is breathtaking and obviously the scene changes with the seasons. The track is not particularly tough, but it does have some steep sections and is uphill the majority of the way. The first half hour getting to the start of the track is nice and easy as you walk the edge of Lake Clearwater but quickly climbs once you’ve reached the DOC starting sign. Overall its a wonderful day hike and the hut is a great spot to sit down for lunch. About 40 minutes and the route will be going through sub alpine vegetation and then through tussocks. Lake Lyndon is one of the closest vehicle access High Country lakes to Christchurch and is normally well stocked with rainbow trout averaging 1.5 to 2 pounds.
